Pregnancy is a time filled with decisions. Will your nursery have animals or airplanes? What color scheme will you use? What’s the nicest way to tell your partner that you will kick them in their sleep if they don’t stop stealing your body pillow? While you’re constantly asked to decide on the little things, unfortunately, you’re often left out of the big picture regarding your delivery. In the medical field, some treat birth as a very clinical process where they must do everything in a specific way, sorry, not sorry. This is why birth centers are so amazing. Birth centers allow you to make all the decisions for your labor and give you the opportunity to deliver in a home away from home, while still having access to life saving care right around the corner. If you’re considering your options for delivery, I would love to tell you all about the Vanderbilt Birth Center.
About Vanderbilt Birth Center
Vanderbilt Birth Center is the only out-of-hospital birth center in the entire state of Tennessee. While the center may not face any competition, it still strives to be the absolute best. The center was originally opened in 2015 as Baby+Co and partnered with Vanderbilt Health.
In 2021, Vanderbilt took full ownership of the center, keeping the original spirit and philosophy of the original clinic while providing patients with more options. The center now has a doctor as well as 17 certified nurse midwives. The team collaborates to ensure you get the best healthcare possible during your positive birthing experience.
I personally received care here while they were still Baby+Co, even though my birth was at Vanderbilt Hospital. The midwives were with me and allowed me to labor how I wanted and advocated for me. I had the most amazing support team and received multiple calls from the midwives at Vanderbilt Birth Center to check in with me after my baby was born. I continued my postpartum care with the wonderful team at Vanderbilt Birth Center and I truly can’t say enough great things about them. I highly recommend the birthing center if you’d like the at home feel and wonderful care, but don’t want to actually give birth at home.
Services
Vanderbilt Birth Center is known for its personalized care and cozy atmosphere. You’ll receive a midwife there to have long discussions where they can address any concerns and help you build a birth plan. Your appointments will take place within the birth center. Once it’s time for delivery, you’ll be placed in a comfortable suite with a large bed and a tub to assist with water births. This place is beautiful and cozy!
The center has a functional kitchen designated for its clients. You or your partner can prepare meals during your time here, so you’ll have delicious food following your labor. Your midwife will be by your side throughout the entire process, honoring your birth plan and assisting. Following your child’s birth, the team will monitor you and your baby before sending you home to recover.
