I can’t believe it!
I am beyond honored and humbled to have been voted Rutherford County’s Best Photographer. When I first picked up a camera (as a kid!), it was out of a simple love for capturing moments, preserving memories, and telling stories through my lens. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that this passion would lead to a business, let alone such an incredible recognition from the community I cherish so much!
Photography, for me, has always been about more than just snapping pictures. It’s about capturing the essence of a moment, the emotions that can’t be put into words, and the beauty that exists in everyday life. Whether it’s a family portrait, a posed newborn photo, or a candid shot of someone simply living in the moment, each photograph I take is a piece of art that holds a special place in my heart.
It’s also about truly preserving the memories. I know it’s cliche, cheesy, whatever you want to call it – but some of the photos I adore the most are of people who are no longer here. Seeing a smile can take you back to their laugh and oh how sweet that is! Of course I also love being able to look at photos of me holding my baby, and playing with her. Now that she’s four, I can’t tell you how much it means to see that squishy chunk of a baby in my arms since I don’t get to feel that anymore, she’s much bigger, not so chunky, and doesn’t fit quite the same way she did before [insert heart break emoji].
As a scientist (did you know that is my former career?), photography is that perfect balance of science and art that tickles my brain in the best way possible. The science lies in understanding the technical aspects—lighting, composition, exposure, and the mechanics of the camera itself. It’s about knowing how to manipulate these elements to create the desired effect, whether it’s capturing the soft features of a newborn or the quick moving toddler. But the art, that comes from the heart, from the way a moment is perceived, framed, and captured. It’s about seeing the world through a different lens—literally and figuratively—and conveying emotions, stories, and beauty in a way that resonates with others. It’s about creativity, intuition, and sometimes, breaking the rules to create something truly unique. Science + Art = Magic. Balancing these two aspects—science and art—is what makes photography such a rewarding and fulfilling craft. It’s a continuous journey of learning, experimenting, and evolving, and I am grateful for every step of it.
To be recognized by the community for doing what I love is incredibly meaningful. Rutherford County is not just where I work; it’s where I live, where I’ve built relationships, and where I’ve found endless inspiration. Every session, every client, and every interaction has been a great blessing in my life, and a learning experience that has shaped me into the photographer I am today.
This award is not just a testament to my work but also to the wonderful people who have trusted me to capture their most precious moments. Without you, this would not have been possible. Each of you has brought something unique into my life, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who voted for me. Your support and belief in my work mean more than words can express. This recognition fuels my passion even more, and I am excited to continue creating beautiful memories with all of you.
I am also grateful to my fellow photographers in Rutherford County, whose talent and creativity inspire me daily. Being a part of such a vibrant and supportive community is a privilege, and I am honored to stand among you.
As I move forward, I promise to keep pushing the boundaries of my creativity, to keep learning and growing, and to continue capturing the moments that matter most. Thank you, Rutherford County, for this incredible honor. I am truly blessed to do what I love, and I look forward to many more years of creating art together.
With love and gratitude,
Amanda Barrett
